The first few weeks of your baby’s life are a whirlwind of tiny yawns, soft snuggles, and an ever-changing little face. It’s a fleeting time, and newborn photography is a beautiful way to freeze these precious moments, creating tangible memories you’ll treasure forever. These images aren’t just photos; they’re a legacy, a visual story of your family’s newest chapter. Here’s everything you need to know about when to book your newborn photography session!
Newborn photography hinges on timing. Those adorable, sleepy poses are best captured within the first 1-3 weeks of life. During this period, babies are still naturally curled, sleep soundly, and are more comfortable with gentle posing.
To ensure you don’t miss this crucial window, I recommend booking your newborn session during your second trimester. Why so early? My availability is limited, and babies, bless their unpredictable little hearts, arrive on their own schedule! Booking early secures your spot, and we can set a tentative date based on your due date, with flexibility for adjustments once your little one makes their grand entrance.
Once your baby arrives, please contact me as soon as possible. This allows us to solidify a date within that ideal 1-3 week timeframe. I understand that life with a newborn can be unpredictable, so I’m always flexible and understanding if we need to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances.
My goal is to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for both you and your baby. If baby comes in sleepy and calm I will begin by taking baby gently out of the car seat and then begin with simple posed photos of baby alone and then do family photos at the end.
I encourage new parents to sit comfortably on the couch, have a snack, scroll their phone and rest while I work with baby. I will always speak up if I need an extra set of hands or if I feel like baby needs something from parents.
If there are older siblings I usually start with sibling and family photos first and then move on to photos of baby alone after that. During baby’s portion of the session, I encourage parents to have someone take older siblings out for a bit to ensure a calm environment for baby for the rest of the session.
Your baby’s comfort and safety are my top priorities. We’ll take breaks for feeding, cuddles, and anything else your little one needs.
After your session, I’ll carefully select the best images and begin the editing process. You can expect your online gallery to be available within 1-2 weeks. From there, you’ll have the opportunity to view and choose your favorite photos. I offer a range of beautiful products, including prints, albums, and digital files, to help you showcase your precious memories.
Physical products and digital files will be delivered within a specified timeframe, ensuring you can start enjoying your newborn photos as soon as possible. I always encourage parents to invest in prints and tangible products in addition to digital files. There is something so special about holding your newborn photos in your hands and displaying them in your home.
Newborn photography is an investment in capturing a fleeting moment in time. Booking early ensures you secure your spot, and understanding the timing and session process will help you prepare for a beautiful and stress-free experience. I’m passionate about creating timeless images that you and your family will cherish for generations.

The last 13 years as a Boston portrait photographer has taught me that I would rather document the whole of life, and not just parts. This led me to a focus in everything from sweet newborn photos to family portraits, maternity and motherhood portraits and senior photos.
Look forward to an intuitive experience that is more communicative than not (no details missed or advice not shared), and with custom, modern and light filled photos that are hand-edited to be framed and passed on.
