A few weeks ago I got to spend some time photographing this beautiful new family of three at their gorgeous home in Winchester, MA, a suburb north of Boston.
As I mentioned in a previous blog post about choosing to have your newborn shoot at your house, in order for an in-home session to be a good option, you really need to have a certain look to your home.
You also need an adequate amount of natural light. While I do bring some lighting to my in-home sessions, having natural light really makes all of the difference when it comes to a successful shoot.
To avoid having to schedule a reshoot, I always ask clients to send a few snapshots of their home before commiting to an in-home newborn photo session.
I was so happy when Mom sent me her photos and I was able to see that there were many areas for great family photos. Each room was beautifully decorated in a mostly neutral color palette and they had lovely soft window light.
We started the session with some simple poses of baby girl alone. I brought a few accessories with me in whites, light green and soft pink to use in her images.
First we wrapped her in a soft pink knit wrap and we were even able to get some of those sweet open-eyed shots that parents love so much!
Then I dressed her in a simple white onesie for some more natural photos.
After that we spent the rest of the session photographing the whole family in the various rooms in their home such as their bedroom and living room.
I love that Mom and Dad took the time to think about their outfits. Sticking to the neutral soft color scheme and then adding a beautiful pop of color in the pattern of Mom’s dress from Hill House really brought this shoot together. It not only photographed beautifully, it also worked so well with their home decor.

The last 13 years as a Boston portrait photographer has taught me that I would rather document the whole of life, and not just parts. This led me to a focus in everything from sweet newborn photos to family portraits, maternity and motherhood portraits and senior photos.
Look forward to an intuitive experience that is more communicative than not (no details missed or advice not shared), and with custom, modern and light filled photos that are hand-edited to be framed and passed on.
